Comment: Same hornet but from a different angle - particularly good view of the brown wing front which is another identifier of a hornet rather than a wasp
Vespa-Crabro-European-Hornet-1 * This queen hornet was sitting on an old window sill in my neighbour's house. They called me in to identify it and I couldn't resist taking the camera. I would say this one was 1.5 inches or around 4 cm in lengh * 728 x 576 * (273KB)

These are pictures of Vespa Crabro - the European Hornet - much bigger than ordinary wasps and usually noisier too.
